2019-20 Season Preview: Enfield Co-op
Enfield Co-op Eagles
2018-19 Record: 3-16-1
Tournament Result: Did not qualify
Head Coach: Frank Genovese (18th season)
Key Returning Players: Clay Cowee (F, Sr.), Alex Cunningham (F, Sr.), Ryan Holt (F, Sr.), Declan Higgins (F, So.), Tyler Provencher (D, Jr.), Dan Brennan (D, Jr.), AJ Davies (D, Sr.)
Impact Newcomers: JT Albano (D, Fr.), Tommy Terhune (G, Fr.)
Goalie Situation: Senior Spencer Albano played most of the 2018-19 season. But this is certainly not a cut and dry goaltender depth chart for the Eagles this year. Fellow senior Ryan Groshans returns after missing his junior season and to further muck up the waters, the Eagles are very high on freshman Tommy Terhune who looks strong early on. This will be one worth monitoring.
Key Losses: Zach Hacia, Patrick Fleming (both to graduation), Alex Ferris (CT Chiefs)
Outlook: Enfield has failed to make the state tournament three out of the last four years. The one year they did, we’re only two years removed from and that year the Eagles went 12-7-1, grabbed a 2-seed and fell in the DIII semifinals. With what the Eagles return, I think they’ll surely improved on their 3-win campaign from a year ago. Zach Hacia and Patrick Fleming are going to be sorely missed but when you can return senior forwards like Clay Cowee, Alex Cunningham and Ryan Holt, you have some serious experience coming back. Sophomore Declan Higgins is also coming off a solid first year and he’ll be looked to contribute up front. On D, juniors Tyler Provencher and Dan Brennan as well as senior AJ Davies and freshman JT Albano look to bolster a unit that allowed 4+ goals 14 times last year. In net, 18th year Head Coach Frank Genovese has a good problem to have with a few capable netminders that he can rotate based on success. I think the Eagles improve, how much so remains to be seen. I don’t see them as a title candidate but could fight for home ice in the tourney.
