2020-21 Season Preview: Enfield Co-op Eagles
2019-20 Record: 10-9-1
Head Coach: Frank Genovese (19th season)
Key Returning Players: Tyler Provencher (D, Sr.), Dan Brennan (D, Sr.), Ryan Hudson (F, Sr.), Declan Higgins (F, Jr.)
Impact Newcomers: Luke Archembault (So.), Chase Stebbins (Fr.)
Goalie Situation: The Eagles will have a new face in net no matter who comes out on top. Ryan Groshans and Spencer Albano have graduated which leaves sophomore Tommy Terhune as the lone returner. His playing time has certainly been limited. Look for Nick Gonzales and Nick Morrell to challenge him for crease time this year.
Key Losses: Clayton Cowee, Ryan Groshans, Spencer Albano, Alex Cunningham (all to graduation)
Outlook: Enfield Co-op is coming off what you’d have to classify as a solid season in 2019-20 and when play was halted, they were just coming off a first-round home victory over Newtown and preparing to play top-seed Sheehan. Picking up where they left off is something many of these players who experienced that success last season have to begin this year. The team, though, will look a bit different. Frank Genovese, now in his 19th year as the Eagles head coach, is excited about his team’s defense. “We may be a little scoring by committee this year but our D is fairly deep, especially our top four,” Genovese told CTHSHockey. Senior Tyler Provencher (8 G, 8 A, 16 Pts) and senior Dan Brennan (1 G, 5 A, 6 Pts) will lead that solid group of blueliners. Junior Declan Higgins (4 G, 9 A, 13 Pts) looks to build off a solid sophomore year upfront while senior Ryan Hudson (4 G, 3 A, 7 Pts) will look to help make up for the loss of the graduated All-State forward and 15-goal scorer, Clayton Cowee. The goalie situation is something that is not as firmed up for the Co-op. Sophomore Tommy Terhune returns as the only player to see ice time last year at the varsity level and even that wasn’t much. With some additions that the Eagles are excited about, I think they can be a tough out in a very deep CCC South pool.
