2020-21 Season Preview: Fairfield Co-op Mustangs
2019-20 Record: 12-8-0
Head Coach: Carl Larouche (5th season)
Key Returning Players: Rhys Davies (F, Sr.), Sam Swanson (D, Sr.), Brendan Carney (F, Sr.), Finn Hoey (F, Jr.), Matt Jankovsky (F, Jr.), Bobby Winter (F, Sr.), Brady Pomer (D, Sr.), Andrew Shavinsky (D, Sr.), John Grace (G, Sr.)
Impact Newcomers: Liam Forrest (F, Fr.), Ryan Tymon (F, Fr.), Charlie Swanson (F, So.), Connor Zavory (G, So.)
Goalie Situation: As a junior, John Grace (344 minutes) saw a fair amount of action alongside Jordan Verchin. He will be Fairfield’s #1, backed up by talented newcomer, sophomore Connor Zavory.
Key Losses: James Pisciotta, Jordan Verchin (both to graduation)
Outlook: The Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe Co-op returns a boatload of talent from a team that sat in the middle of the FCIAC past last season. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, they’re running into a very talented FCIAC pool. That said, I think they have more than enough depth to be able to compete with anyone the FCIAC will throw at them. Senior offensive-minded defenseman Sam Swanson (14 G, 13 A, 27 Pts) will carry this group on the back-end as one of the most underrated defensemen in CT. Senior Rhys Davies (14 G, 14 A, 28 Pts) returns as the 6th-leading scorer of returning Division I players. He’s poised to have an even more-accomplished final season. Add in senior Brendan Carney and juniors Finn Hoey and Matt Janovsky, and Fairfield Co-op poses matchup problems night in and night out. Senior John Grace will be tasked with holding down the goaltending duties each night and his play will determine just how effective the Mustangs can be. The Co-op will miss graduated senior James Pisciotta, but have enough to make his absence not as painful. The one thing that will pose a challenge for Fairfield Co-op is the structure of the schedule this year, playing a full FCIAC DI slate. They will take their licks at times, but have more than enough talent to still put together a winning season out of Wonderland.
