Outlook: “This will be a year to remember,” Housy Head Coach Dean Diamond told CTHSHockey. This was after he explained that the Co-op will be without a home rink, possibly practicing on ponds and/or dry ground. In a year unlike any other, why not? As of the time I’m writing this, Housy has five games scheduled, three of which will be played in Danbury, over an hour away from the Hotchkiss School where Housy normally plays. Housy will truly be road warriors this year as the Nutmeg Conference has split up for one season, allowing Tri-Town and SGWL to play in the CCC South, Housy and Woodstock homeless, and Eastern CT Eagles taking the year off per ECC co-op regulations. But if anyone can get kids still motivated and make this a productive season, it’s Coach Diamond. Last year had to burn even more for Housy considering when the season stopped they were just coming off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory, topping 2-seed Newington Co-op 4-0 as a 15-seed. This year, Housy returns a really strong junior forward in Zim McAuliffe (11 G, 11 A, 22 Pts). McAuliffe is complemented nicely by fellow junior Sammy Hoyt (9 G, 10 A, 19 Pts) and senior Ryan Dorn. However, two of the Mountaineers' leading top four scorers, Tyler Calhoun and Luke Mollica, have graduated and will be tough to replace. Senior John Purdy will continue to be Diamond’s guy in net and has had some real moments of brilliance in the past. Diamond is excited for some new blood injected into the Co-op as he has nine new arrivals this year with the addition of Litchfield High School as a co-op member. It is unlikely there will be any type of postseason for Housy this year but this is certainly going to be a team to pull for.
