2020-21 Season Preview: Immaculate Mustangs
2019-20 Record: 4-14-2
Head Coach: Brian Lugo (2nd season)
Key Returning Players: Tim Hayden (F, Sr.), Harrison Palmer (G, Sr.)
Impact Newcomers: Patrick Heslin (F, Fr.)
Goalie Situation: Harrison Palmer played a decent amount of minutes for the Mustangs last year and will man the crease in his senior season. Lugo is looking for Palmer to be a leader in net with Graham departed. Sophomore Francis McGreal will serve as the Mustangs backup.
Key Losses: Joe Robinson, Alex Butera, Ryan Moody, Dylan Fortier, Chris Graham, Finn Sawitsky (all to graduation)
Outlook: In his second season, Head Coach Chris Lugo is excited to put a four-win 2019-20 campaign behind him and build for the future with what looks like a competitive roster on paper. Senior Tim Hayden (6 G, 24 A, 30 Pts) returns as DI’s 5th-leading scorer of returning players. Hayden had the chops to take his talents elsewhere but stuck around for his final go-around. In net, Immaculate will turn to senior Harrison Palmer who saw a fair amount of action last season. Look for freshman Patrick Heslin to contribute right away, as he will be given top-line duties right out of the gate. Ultimately, this looks like a team who is probably a year or two away from greatness but that’s no reason to shrug them off this year, as they’re still a team with a very high ceiling. Lugo recognizes this, but also acknowledges his group’s commitment to the program. “We will see the school continue to become a force over the next two years as they mature into juniors and seniors. These players are committed to the systems and will see competitive games against some of the best Division 1 schools in the state,” Lugo told CTHSHockey.
