2020-21 Season Preview: New Milford Green Wave
2019-20 Record: 13-6-1
Head Coach: Scott Capriglione (7th season)
Key Returning Players: Steve Sanford (D, Jr.), Ryan Parker (F, Jr.), Jarrett Rivera (F, Sr.), Logan Lucas (G, Sr.)
Impact Newcomers: Jonas Veleas (G), Bryce Isquith, Theo Dietter
Goalie Situation: Senior Logan Lucas will take over full time in his third year with the program. Lucas (6-1-1, 2.2 GAA, .900 SV%) was impressive splitting duties with Lee Conlu last season.
Key Losses: Lee Conlu, Sean Donahue, Ian Donahue, Logan Maciel, Cam Schopfer (all to graduation)
Outlook: The Green Wave are coming off their best season since 2013-14 but have an uphill climb if they want to come close to replicating that this year. New Milford lost four of the top five leading scorers to graduation and also graduated All-State goalie Lee Conlu. Replacing Conlu may be a bit easier than the offensive losses as senior Logan Lucas returns after a strong season splitting time with Conlu. On the offensive side, junior Ryan Parker (7 G, 6 A, 13 Pts) and senior Jarrett Rivera (7 G, 4 A, 11 Pts) lead an inexperienced forward group. After a solid sophomore year, junior Steve Sanford (6 G, 8 A, 14 Pts) will be called upon to perform as a two-way defenseman. One thing working in New Milford’s favor is their camaraderie. Many of these guys played a midget season together this fall before the government shutdown. Word coming from the New Milford camp is that the energy level is high and while new bodies are going to be called upon to perform, this is a group that believes they can have a strong season.
