2020-21 Season Preview: Norwalk-McMahon SenaBears
2019-20 Record: 11-8-1
Head Coach: Scott Raymond (3rd season)
Key Returning Players: Finn Cullen (F, Sr.), Nat Gibson (D, Jr.), Will Coale (D, Jr.)
Impact Newcomers: Keegan Cullen (F, So.), Alex Diraffaele (F, Jr.)
Goalie Situation: All-stater Max Vitucci has graduated, and with his exit, a large void, literally and figuratively, has been left in net for Norwalk-McMahon. Sophomore Patrick Gummer, Vitucci’s
backup last year, has been tabbed as next in line.
Key Losses: Jeb Boyrer, Max Vitucci, Fin Bean, Cooper Gibson, Liam Tobias, Andrew Pare, Shane Tracy, Trevor McGee (all to graduation)
Outlook: Norwalk-McMahon is coming off a great 2019-20 campaign. The SenaBears notched their first winning season since 2005-06, saw senior leader Jeb Boyrer accomplish a 100-point career, and were one win away from Ingalls when the season stopped. Boyrer has graduated, as has stud goalie Max Vitucci, and a handful of other talents that got NorMc to the point they were last year. Senior Finn Cullen (15 G, 15 A, 30 Pts) returns as one of the FCIAC’s better offensive options. He will need some secondary scoring to emerge to give him a chance to get loose and shine. On D, juniors Nat Gibson and Will Coale lead a young group of blueliners. Sophomore Patrick Gummer is tasked with making up for the loss of Vitucci, which will not be easy to do. Head Coach Scott Raymond, a 2019-20 CTHSHockey Coach of the Year Finalist, admits his team is young but emphasized how hungry they are. Playing in the non-DI FCIAC tier this season is going to do wonders for this young group. When you take a deeper look at the SenaBears performance last year, their dominance at the DIII level was clear. Of their eight losses, six came to FCIAC Division I opponents, with the other two coming to FCIAC Division II foes Westhill-Stamford and Trumbull. This bodes extremely well for NorMc entering this season.
